The phrase of the day is: "Get a word in"

  • To succeed in interrupting a conversation in which someone else is talking incessantly.
    (usually used with a negative, sometimes used with edgewise instead of edgeways)
    [ --- Everyone was talking at once. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. --- ]
